Hello! I have some great news and I’m really happy so I thought I’d share it with you.

Well I had my first assessment today for art.  I wasn’t too nervous, but I didn’t feel entirely confident.  I kept tripping over my words and skipping over my bullet points… but after about 5 minutes I began to relax and talked about my work, and my tutors were incredibly impressed with how I handled the assessment, told me my work was fantastic, that I was doing all the right things and that I had nothing to worry about!  So that had me very happy.

Then I got given a list of choices for “complementary studies” where we choose a creative course to complete alongside our Fine Art degree.  Right at the top of the list, beaming back at me, was “Creative Writing”… so that’s what I’m going to choose.  Every Thursday starting on the 23rd February I will be doing a creative writing workshop from 1.30 - 4.30pm which will be held by guest poets and writers and will involve going out and writing at different places.  I am so, so excited.  My writing has become a major part of my artwork, with me producing a (very crazy) journal to go along with my “Outburst” piece, and with the fact that during the assessment I mentioned National Novel Writing Month and doing things spontaneously in order to get the best out of my creativity.

So that’s what I’m going to choose.  I had a long list to choose from, including working with glass, making jewellery, underwater photography etc etc, but creative writing jumped out of the page and straight into my heart.  I just know that this is an opportunity that I might never get again.
